COURSE DESCRIPTION:
The Certified Administrative Professional (CAP) Part IV Course is a study course for taking the fourth part of the CAP examination, which certifies the administrative assistant as a Certified Administrative Professional (CAP). It is designated to measure the candidate's ability to properly analyze office situations, determine critical factors of these situations, and apply a wide range of knowledge in a variety of situations.
COURSE OBJECTIVES: At the conclusion of this course, the student should be able to take the Part IV: Organizational Planning of the Certified Administrative Professional Examination.
PREREQUISITES AND CO-REQUISITES:
There are no prerequisites for this course. It may be taken with the CPS Review Courses if the student is taking the CAP examination as the fourth part of the exam or as an individual course if the student has already obtained the CPS certification.
COURSE TOPICS:
This course is divided into three main sections: team skills, strategic planning, and advanced administration. A review of the management theories and accounting procedures are included. Section One, Team Skills, covers the topics of team building, team leading, group problem-solving, conflict resolution, and meetings. Section Two, Strategic Planning, includes critical thinking skills, decision-making, communication organization mission and values, and allocating organizational resources. Section Three, Advanced Administration, discusses issues of training, mentoring, education, development, research, project coordination, delegation, and job empowerment.

Grades are based on attendance in the course and required assignments, discussions, and tests.

ASSIGNMENTS AND PROJECTS:
Each course section will include assignments and discussions to be completed by a required due date.
CLASS PARTICIPATION:
All students are expected to participate in all discussions and assignments required by the instructor of the course. The assignments and discussions are designed to help the student think in a managerial capacity which is necessary for successful passage of the CAP examination. The CAP examination is a scenario-based multiple-choice test; however, it is not like the CPS examination. You must make decisions about the scenario given to you in selecting your answers. There are usually five to six questions to each scenario. Participation in each discussion and assignment is extremely important. Students should take all tests as often as possible. This will help you in preparation for the CAP examination.
PUNCTUALITY:
The student should turn in assignments by the designated due date.
COURSE GROUND RULES:
Learn how to navigate in E-Learn. Participate in all discussions. Keep abreast of course announcements. Address technical problems immediately. Observe course netiquette at all times.
EMAIL:
Always include a subject line. Remember without facial expressions some comments may be taken the wrong way. Be careful in wording your e-mails. Use of emoticons might be helpful in some cases. Use standard fonts. Do not send large attachments without permission. Special formatting such as centering, audio messages, tables, html, etc. should be avoided. Respect the privacy of other class members.
DISCUSSION GROUPS:
Review the discussion threads thoroughly before entering the discussion. Be a lurker then a discussant. Try to maintain threads by using the "Reply" button rather starting a new topic. Do not make insulting or inflammatory statements to other members of the discussion group. Be respectful of other’s ideas. Be patient and read the comments of other group members thoroughly before entering your remarks. Be cooperative with group leaders in completing assigned tasks. Be positive and constructive in group discussions. Respond in a thoughtful and timely manner.
CHAT:
Introduce yourself to the other learners in the chat session. Be polite. Choose your words carefully. Do not use derogatory statements. Be concise in responding to others in the chat session. Be prepared to open the chat session at the scheduled time. Be constructive in your comments and suggestions.
