Course Description: |
Intensive
Survival Spanish for Law Enforcement Personnel is designed to
enable officers who know little or no Spanish to communicate
with the Spanish speaking public in the conduct of their duties.
|
|
Course Objectives: |
-
The objective is to learn the basic skills and key
phrases for communication, verbal commands,
interrogation and the gathering of information from
Latinos as used in the line of duty.
-
Important to this learning process is the study of
Hispanic basic culture that will include some slang and
“Spanglish.” Cultural study is what bridges the gap of
understanding between cultures. It eliminates
misunderstood prejudice that comes through ignorance.
-
You will practice a lot of oral pronunciation drills,
not seeking perfection but familiarity and comfort in
Spanish usage.
-
You will use and learn this information through
interactive as well as situational role-plays and small
group projects.
-
Homework assignments will be to personalize, learn and
apply what you have learned.
