Course Information
Course Description: An introduction to elementary methods and techniques. Topics include sampling, frequency distributions, elementary probability, discrete and continuous probability distributions, interval estimation, hypothesis testing, and simple correlation. Intended primarily for business majors.
Course Objectives: As a result of successfully completing this course, students will have demonstrated an acceptable level of mastery of the concepts and applications of an introductory course in statistics, which may then be applied as encountered in professional activities. This course also seeks to provide a background for students to pursue other courses in statistics.
Prerequisites and Corequisites: Two years of high school algebra and an acceptable placement score or DSPM 0850.

Assessment and Grading
Testing Procedures:

All tests will be taken on-line. The deadlines for each test are indicated in the Course Schedule. These dates indicate the last day that a test may be taken. Students may work ahead of schedule. Tests will not be given after the deadline without the permission of the instructor.

Proctoring is determined by the individual instructor. Please refer to the course syllabus for test proctoring specifics.

Grading Procedure: Participation in on-line discussion: 10%. You must participate with Constructive Discussion on a regular basis. The instructor will have access to all chat and message board discussion and will periodically monitor this communication in order to assess the participation of each student. This is your opportunity to ask and answer questions. The instructor expects not only questions from students but also attempts to resolve questions through discussion. If you have the answer, submit it for all to see.

Class Participation: The instructor will be available as an online resource at designated times. Students must check the course bulletin board frequently for announcements. Participation in on-line discussion will be used as a component of the final grade.
Punctuality: Deadlines are given for the graded tests and Minitab Labs. They will not be accepted after the deadline without the permission of the instructor.
Course Ground Rules
Participation is required. You are expected to view the lecture notes. Be sure that you can navigate in WebCT. Check your e-mail daily for course announcements. It is your responsibility to address technical problems immediately. Observe course netiquette at all times.

All work is to be completed by the student enrolled in Math 1530. Work done by anyone else will be considered cheating and will result in an F for the course.

Email: Always include a subject line.
Remember, without facial expressions some comments may be taken the wrong way. Be careful in wording your emails. Use of emotions might be helpful in some cases.
Do not send large attachments without permission.
Special formatting such as centering, audio messages, tables, html, etc. should be avoided unless necessary to complete an assignment or other communication.
Respect the privacy of other class members.

Be polite. Choose your words carefully. Do not use derogatory statements.
